Vegan Virgin Valentine by Carolyn Mackler

As I've mentioned previously, I've decided to try to make 2010 a year of more books from different genres, including young adult novels, which led me to Vegan Virgin Valentine .

Focusing on either the "vegan" or the "virgin" elements of this book miss the point. Mackler's done an exceptional job of creating a main character, Meghan Valentine, an overachiever with no sense of who she is. What teenage girl can't relate to that? There's conflict and twists, dialogue that sounds like actual teenagers, and a good message about loosening up and finding your way. Mackler's style of writing is witty and focused.

Given the negative reviews I've seen on Amazon, there are clearly parents and teenagers who hated this book. But I would recommend it, especially for any teenage female reader.
